Submitting Website to Google Webmaster Tools

Using Google Webmaster Tools gives you access to reports about your website's visibility. It also ensures that your website is indexed by Google faster. Although using Google Webmaster Tools is not necessary, it is a smart choice to help your search ranking.

You can access Google Webmaster Tools here. To use the Google Webmaster Tools, you will need a Google or gmail account.

Once you access the Google Webmaster Tools, you will be required to log in with your Google account. Once you are logged in, you will taken to a Search console. Add your address (URL) of your website and click the Add Property button. Ensure you add http://www. (or https://www if you have an SSL certificate) when adding your address. The "www" is necessary.

Clicking the Add Property button opens the Verify Ownership section. You have to verify yourself as the owner since Google does not want a random person to represent your site.

Click on Alternate methods and then choose the HTML Tag option

There will be a code that will be displayed. Copy the code provided by Google. Go to the Editor area of the SiteBuilder. Click on Settings -> SEO. Paste the code in the header code section.

Make sure Save and Publish your site after pasting the code.

Go back to Google Webmaster Tools and click on the verify button. If you see an error, go back and make sure you have Published your site. Then, give it a couple of minutes and then try again. You should now see a congratulations message.

Clicking on "Continue" link will bring you to the Site Dashboard. Submit your sitemap by clicking on the Sitemaps link, and then Add/Test Sitemap. You can get your sitemap at http://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. You can also just enter sitemap.xml in the box Google provides and click on Submit Sitemap.
